🗂 Part of event: Will Russia capture Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka by...? →💡 What the odds say
The market puts this at about a 7% chance — very unlikely.
No money — just record your call and see if you were right. Yes is at 7% right now.
The market heavily favors No because Russia's current offensive is focused on Kostyantynivka, not Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka, and Ukrainian deep strikes are straining Russian logistics, making a capture of this specific railroad station by September unlikely.
What's driving it
- • Russian forces are prioritizing the capture of Kostyantynivka to offset bad news on Crimea, as per EUobserver (Jun 25), diverting resources from Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka.
- • Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian oil infrastructure (Fortune, Jul 4) and on Moscow (Українські Новини, Jun 30) are disrupting supply lines and adding political pressure, limiting Russian offensive capacity.
- • The slow pace of Russian advances in Donetsk, described as 'crawling between houses' (EUobserver, Jun 25), suggests that capturing a precise objective like a railroad station within three months is a low-probability event.
- • High Russian casualty figures—1,339,190 troops lost since Feb. 2022 (Kyiv Independent, May 8)—indicate attrition that hampers sustained offensives.
The case for YES
- • If Russia captures Kostyantynivka sooner than expected, they could shift forces toward Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka, making a September capture possible.
- • Incremental gains in Donetsk, even at a crawling pace, could eventually reach the railroad station if Russia maintains pressure over the next three months.
- • Putin's political need for a victory to offset Crimea setbacks (EUobserver, Jun 25) might lead to a concentrated push on multiple small towns, including Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka.
The case for NO
- • The town is not a priority; Russian efforts are concentrated on Kostyantynivka (EUobserver, Jun 25), leaving Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka with minimal offensive attention.
- • Ukrainian deep-strike drone campaigns (Fortune, Jul 4; Українські Новини, Jun 30) are degrading Russian logistics and command, slowing any advance in Donetsk.
- • The ISW map requires the specific railroad station to be shaded red; even if Russian forces approach, they may not fully secure and hold that precise point by the September 30 deadline.
What to watch
- • Release of the next ISW offensive campaign assessment (expected early August) could show whether Russian forces have shifted focus to Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka; if so, Yes odds rise.
- • If Russia captures Kostyantynivka in the coming weeks (as per EUobserver, Jun 25), they may then turn to other axes, increasing the probability of a push toward Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka and raising Yes odds.
- • Any major Ukrainian counteroffensive in Donetsk (e.g., after receiving new Western weapons) would likely decrease Yes odds by diverting Russian forces.

Resolution criteria
This market will resolve to “Yes” if, according to the ISW map, Russia captures the railroad station (48.578748° N, 37.616899° E) located in Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka, Donetsk Oblast, by the specified date, 11:59 PM ET. The train station will be considered captured if any part of the icon is shaded red on the ISW map (https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/36a7f6a6f5a9448496de641cf64bd375) by the resolution date. If the area is not shaded red by the specified date, the market will resolve to “No”. For any change on the ISW map to qualify for this market’s resolution, the relevant shading indicating Russian control must persist through the next full ISW daily update cycle. If ISW skips a day, shading must persist until the next finalized ISW update is published, regardless of the date. Any continuous shading which reflects either “Assessed Russian Control”, “Assessed Russian Advance In Ukraine”, or “Assessed Russian Gains in the Past 24 Hours” will qualify. “Assessed Russian Infiltration Areas in Ukraine” will not qualify. If Russia comes into control of this territory as a result of a negotiated settlement, this will qualify for a 'Yes' resolution, regardless of whether it is shaded red in the ISW map. An announcement of a negotiated settlement that gives Russia de jure control will not qualify. Actual control must be established. Once Russia captures the railroad station, any subsequent loss of control will not be considered towards the resolution of this market.
