Will Bitcoin dip to $5,000 by December 31, 2026?
🗂 Part of event: What price will Bitcoin hit in 2026? →💡 What the odds say
The market puts this at about a 2% chance — almost no chance.
No money — just record your call and see if you were right. Yes is at 2% right now.
Despite a headline calling a 50% dip the 'shallowest on record,' the market gives near-zero probability to Bitcoin hitting $5,000 by end-2026, implying traders see that level as a catastrophic tail risk rather than a normal correction.
📊 Base rate: Bitcoin has never closed below $10,000 in any year since 2020, and its worst annual drawdowns since 2018 have been between 50% and 80%, making a retest of $5,000 — roughly 93% below peaks — a multi-standard-deviation event.
What's driving it
- • Bitcoin recently surged past $70,000 (Kavout, Jul 19), showing strong upward momentum that raises the bar for a catastrophic decline.
- • A 2% dip rebounded quickly after Trump's pro-crypto remarks (Yahoo Finance, Jul 20), suggesting market resilience to negative news.
- • The 'shallowest 50% dip on record' narrative (The Cryptonomist, Jul 20) reinforces that past severe corrections have bottomed much higher than $5,000.
- • A brief dip during the CLARITY Act hearing (Coinpedia, Jul 17) was contained, indicating regulatory jitters are not enough to crash the price to single digits.
The case for YES
- • If a coordinated regulatory crackdown (like the CLARITY Act passing with harsh rules) or a major stablecoin collapse triggered a liquidity crisis, Bitcoin could drop 90%+ as seen in past crypto winters — $5,000 is within historical 90%+ drawdown territory.
- • A severe recession or dollar liquidity crisis could drain speculative capital, pushing Bitcoin toward its previous cycle lows near $3,000-$5,000, especially if exchange-traded-fund inflows reverse.
- • The resolution mechanism only requires a one-minute candle below $5,000 on Binance, so a flash crash or erroneous trade on a low-volume day could technically trigger a 'Yes' even without sustained lows.
The case for NO
- • Bitcoin's network adoption and institutional interest (e.g., ETFs, corporate treasuries) have formed a price floor far above $5,000; even the worst drawdowns since 2020 stayed above $15,000.
- • The 98% 'No' price implies the market sees no credible catalyst for a >90% meltdown within 18 months, as halving cycles and Fed rate pause expectations favor price stability or growth.
- • An erroneous low candle on Binance is extremely unlikely given the exchange's liquidity and circuit breakers, and the market's resolution source is a single exchange — not a composite — making no-win edges minimal.
What to watch
- • 2026-09-15: U.S. SEC decision on crypto-spot-ETF rule changes — a restrictive ruling could shift odds slightly toward 'Yes.'
- • 2026-11-01: Release of October U.S. CPI data — a surprise inflation spike deeper than expected could weigh on risk assets and push 'Yes' odds up marginally.
- • 2026-12-15: Last major Fed rate decision before market close — a hawkish hike could increase 'Yes' probability, but only if equity markets also crash.

Which price will Bitcoin hit in 2026?
The field is overwhelmingly concentrated on Bitcoin reaching $65k and $75k in 2026, both at 99%, reflecting the current price near $64k and a strong bullish consensus. Which price will Bitcoin hit in July?
The market is effectively settled: with Bitcoin trading above $65,000 as of July 26 and only five days left in July, the 98% odds for $65,000 reflect a near-certain outcome rather than a speculative bet, leaving no room for the other two price levels.

Which price will Solana hit in July?
The $70 target leads at 30%, but the field is far from decided; the single largest recent shift appears to be the mixed impact of a record stablecoin market cap and a $1.65M exploit on the same day (July 20), which may have widened the probability spread.

What will be the price of Bitcoin at the end of 2026?
The field is heavily concentrated in the $60k–$90k range (81% combined), with the leading $60k–$75k bracket at 53% — a bet that Bitcoin's bear market bottoms and recovers modestly by year-end, but does not break out above $105k (only 6%). The biggest recent shift is the 53% leader absorbing share from the $75k–$90k and below-$60k bins, likely driven by the July 18 report of massive call spreads targeting $72,000 around the Fed meeting (CoinDesk, Jul 18) and the July 24 analysis suggesting the bear market may end before the four-year cycle predicts (Bitcoin Foundation, Jul 24).

BTC next move: Pump to $84K or Dump to $55K?
The market is binary and highly concentrated with the $55K dump at 65% odds, but the lack of recent headlines suggests the odds are driven by persistent sentiment rather than a specific catalyst, leaving the $84K pump as a viable tail risk.
