Will Bitcoin reach $500,000 by December 31, 2026?
🗂 Part of event: What price will Bitcoin hit in 2026? →💡 What the odds say
The market puts this at about a 1% chance — almost no chance.

The market assigns a near-zero probability to Bitcoin reaching $500k by end of 2026, reflecting the enormous gap from the current ~$65k price and the absence of any credible catalyst for a 7x+ surge within 18 months.
What's driving it
- • Current Bitcoin price sits at ~$65k, less than 1/8th of the $500k target (CoinGape, Jul 21), making the required move historically unprecedented in such a short timeframe.
- • A $70k options ceiling is acting as a near-term resistance, capping upside momentum (Memeburn, Jul 20), reinforcing the market's view that a parabolic rally is unlikely.
- • Anthony Scaramucci's prediction of $1M Bitcoin is conditional on gold reaching $50T, a scenario that itself faces regulatory hurdles (Pluang, Jul 20), highlighting the structural barriers to extreme price targets.
- • No major institutional or government adoption news has emerged that would alter the risk/reward calculus for a $500k target, and the market is pricing in a 99% probability of failure.
The case for YES
- • The resolution condition is extremely loose: a single one-minute candle on Binance must only touch $500k, not close above it, meaning a flash crash or temporary manipulation could trigger a 'Yes' outcome.
- • A global macro shock (e.g., hyperinflation in a major economy, a sudden shift to Bitcoin as a reserve asset) could theoretically drive a rapid price spike, as seen in past crises.
- • Prominent figures like Tom Lee (BitMine Immersion) and Anthony Scaramucci have publicly predicted multi-thousand-percent gains (foreignpolicyjournal.com, Jul 20; Pluang, Jul 20), suggesting belief in a scenario that could push prices to $500k.
The case for NO
- • Bitcoin is currently trading at ~$65k, requiring a 7.7x increase in roughly 18 months—a feat it has never achieved from a similar starting point in its history.
- • Regulatory headwinds remain a persistent drag, as noted by Scaramucci (Pluang, Jul 20), and no concrete policy shift has been announced that would catalyze such a massive rally.
- • The options market is already pricing in a ceiling at $70k (Memeburn, Jul 20), indicating that professional traders see limited upside in the near term, making a $500k spike seem fantastical.
What to watch
- • The next US Federal Reserve interest rate decision (scheduled for late July 2026) could influence risk appetite; a surprise rate cut might boost crypto prices, but the impact to $500k is negligible. (Direction: slightly positive for Yes)
- • The US presidential election in November 2026 could bring regulatory clarity around crypto; a pro-crypto candidate victory would increase the probability of a future price surge, though still far from $500k. (Direction: positive for Yes)
- • No specific dated catalyst from the provided headlines can move the odds significantly toward $500k, given the 1% baseline; the market effectively requires a black-swan event to change the probability.

BTC next move: Pump to $84K or Dump to $55K?
The market is binary and highly concentrated with the $55K dump at 65% odds, but the lack of recent headlines suggests the odds are driven by persistent sentiment rather than a specific catalyst, leaving the $84K pump as a viable tail risk.
