Will Paige Bueckers have the highest points per game in the WNBA 2026 regular season?
🗂 Part of event: WNBA: Points Per Game Leader →💡 What the odds say
The market puts this at about a 1% chance — almost no chance.
No money — just record your call and see if you were right. Yes is at 1% right now.
Despite a dominant second-year leap and unstoppable plays, the market sees Paige Bueckers as a 1% long shot to lead the WNBA in scoring, reflecting the towering competition from established superstars and a team context that may limit her usage.
📊 Base rate: Over the past decade, only one player (Jewell Loyd in 2023) has led the WNBA in scoring before their third season, and no player has done it as a rookie or second-year player, making the historical prior strongly against a sophomore leading the league.
What's driving it
- • A Sports Illustrated piece on Jul 17 highlighted Bueckers’ 'second-year leap' and a play no WNBA team can stop, yet the odds remain at 1%, indicating the market is unmoved by her individual brilliance (Sports Illustrated, Jul 17).
- • Yahoo Sports reported on Jul 18 that WNBA analysts consider her teammate’s contract 'overvalued,' which may signal the Wings are paying others big money, potentially capping Bueckers’ usage or team scoring focus (Yahoo Sports, Jul 18).
- • The Dallas Wings’ recent 89-76 win (ESPN, Jul 5) does not mention Bueckers’ scoring volume, and the lack of headlines about her leading the scoring race suggests the market believes other stars (e.g., A'ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart) are ahead in PPG.
The case for YES
- • Bueckers’ second-year leap (SI, Jul 17) and an unstoppable play that no team has stopped (Yahoo Sports Canada, Jul 17) show she has the offensive arsenal to produce at an elite level.
- • If the Wings’ offense runs through her more as the season progresses, her scoring average could climb into contention, especially if she maintains efficiency while increasing volume.
- • The market at 1% may be undervaluing a breakout season from a player described as a 'national treasure' (Mavs Moneyball, Jul 17) in a league where young stars have occasionally dominated (e.g., Candace Parker’s rookie MVP).
The case for NO
- • Established superstars like A'ja Wilson (averaging ~20+ PPG consistently) and Breanna Stewart have proven scoring prowess over a full season, making it unlikely a second-year player surpasses them without a historic outlier.
- • The Wings have multiple scoring options (including a teammate with an 'overvalued' contract), which could spread attempts and reduce Bueckers’ individual volume relative to a team where one star dominates usage.
- • Qualification thresholds (e.g., minimum games) and potential missed time due to foul trouble or load management could hinder Bueckers’ chances, especially for a player still adjusting to the WNBA’s physicality.
What to watch
- • As the season reaches its midpoint (around Aug 1), updated PPG leaderboards will show whether Bueckers is within striking distance; if she cracks the top 3, odds could rise sharply.
- • A head-to-head matchup against a top scorer like A'ja Wilson or Breanna Stewart in the next Wings game (date TBD) could either boost her narrative if she outplays them or solidify the gap.
- • The WNBA trade deadline (usually mid-August) might alter team rosters; if the Wings trade away a high-usage player, Bueckers’ scoring opportunities could increase, nudging odds upward.

Settled on-chain by UMA's optimistic oracle: once an outcome is clear, anyone can propose the result, which then enters a challenge window where it can be disputed with evidence before it finalizes.

Resolution criteria
This market will resolve according to the player that finishes the 2026 WNBA regular season with the highest points per game average of any qualified player. In the event of a tie for the highest points per game average, this market will resolve in favor of the player who appeared in the greater number of games. If the tied players also played the same number of games, the market will resolve in favor of the player whose listed last name comes first alphabetically. Qualification for inclusion in official WNBA leaderboards (such as minimum games or statistical thresholds) will be determined according to WNBA rules and applied exactly as reflected in the official leaderboard. If the 2026 WNBA regular season is cancelled, postponed after October 8, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or if an official leader has not been declared within that timeframe, this market will resolve to "Other". The resolution source will be the WNBA (https://stats.wnba.com/players/traditional/).
