Will Clément Braz Afonso finish top 3 in the 2026 Tour De France?
🗂 Part of event: Tour De France 2026: Top 3 →💡 What the odds say
The market puts this at about a 0% chance — almost no chance.
No money — just record your call and see if you were right. Yes is at 0% right now.
Braz Afonso is a 23-year-old neo-pro whose first Grand Tour experience is still a year away, making a top-3 finish in the 2026 Tour de France an extreme longshot that the market is pricing as merely unlikely rather than nearly impossible.
📊 Base rate: Since 2000, only one rider (Tadej Pogačar in 2020) has finished top-3 in the Tour de France within his first two seasons as a professional; riders with zero Grand Tour starts before the race have never done so.
What's driving it
- • The 7-day odds drop of 3 points reflects the market absorbing a series of first-person blog posts (Feb–Sep 2025) that frame Braz Afonso as a developing rider still learning WorldTour racing, not a contender (equipecycliste-groupama-fdj.fr, multiple dates).
- • The 24-hour drop of 2 points may stem from the September 30 headline 'My First Grand Tour' confirming he will debut in a Grand Tour only in 2025, leaving just one season of three-week racing experience before the 2026 Tour.
- • No headline or news event suggests any injury, team leadership change, or race result that would directly boost his odds; the movement appears driven purely by the gradual realization of his inexperience.
- • The market's 47% Yes price is surprisingly high given that Braz Afonso has never raced a Grand Tour and his team (Groupama-FDJ) has not produced a Tour top-3 finisher since Thibaut Pinot in 2014.
The case for YES
- • Braz Afonso could emerge as a pure climber in a Tour route that heavily favors mountains, and his team might ride for him as a protected leader if other GC options falter.
- • The 2026 Tour field could be weakened by retirements or injuries to top contenders like Pogačar, Vingegaard, or Evenepoel, opening a podium spot for a dark horse.
- • His development trajectory—moving from Continental to WorldTour in 2025—could accelerate faster than typical, especially if he shows top-10 results in a 2025 Grand Tour debut.
The case for NO
- • No rider in the modern era has finished top-3 in the Tour de France without having completed at least one Grand Tour beforehand; Braz Afonso will have at most one prior Grand Tour by July 2026.
- • Groupama-FDJ has not placed a rider on the Tour podium in over a decade, and the team's current GC leader (David Gaudu) has never finished top-5, suggesting the team lacks the infrastructure to develop a podium contender quickly.
- • The market's 53% No price is still too low given that the historical base rate for a 23-year-old neo-pro with zero Grand Tour starts finishing Tour top-3 is effectively 0%.
What to watch
- • July 2025 Tour de France: If Braz Afonso debuts and finishes outside the top-20 overall, the Yes odds should drop sharply; a top-10 finish would boost them.
- • August–September 2025 Vuelta a España: If he rides his second Grand Tour and shows consistent climbing, the Yes odds could rise; a DNF or poor result would lower them.
- • February–March 2026 stage races (e.g., Paris-Nice, Tirreno-Adriatico): Strong GC results against top Tour contenders would be the first credible evidence he could contend for a podium, pushing Yes above 50%.

How it resolves
Settled on-chain by UMA's optimistic oracle: once an outcome is clear, anyone can propose the result, which then enters a challenge window where it can be disputed with evidence before it finalizes.

Resolution criteria
This market will resolve to "Yes" if the listed cyclist finishes in the top 3 of the 2026 Tour De France scheduled for July 4, 2026 through July 26, 2026. If at any point it becomes impossible for a listed cyclist to finish in the top 3 of the 2026 Tour De France per the rules of the UCI, the corresponding market will resolve to "No". If the 2026 Tour De France is cancelled, postponed after August 9, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or there are otherwise no declared top 3 finishers declared within that timeframe, the corresponding market will resolve to "No". The primary resolution source will be official information from UCI; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
ⓘ A market settles under its own written rules, which can lag what looks decided in the news — so the price may not move to 100% the moment an outcome seems obvious.

Jackson Koivun commands an unusually high 54% probability for a PGA Tour event, but the 1-point dip in the last 24 hours hints at shifting money, and recent headlines focus entirely on the British Open victory by Ryan Fox (AP News, Jul 24), offering no clear catalyst for that movement or for Koivun's lead itself.
