Thymen Arensman's top-3 hopes have collapsed after a costly mechanical or crash on stage 14, compounded by INEOS shifting focus to Egan Bernal as team leader, making a podium finish highly unlikely.
What's driving it
- • Arensman expressed frustration after an unlucky break on stage 14 (IDLprocycling.com, Jul 19), likely costing him significant time and making top-3 improbable.
- • INEOS announced they are switching up their strategy (IDLprocycling.com, Jul 16), indicating they are no longer riding for Arensman's general classification.
- • Bernal led the team home in the Vosges stage (Netcompany INEOS, Jul 17), confirming he is the protected rider, not Arensman.
The case for YES
- • Arensman was active on a demanding mountain stage (Netcompany INEOS, Jul 19), showing he still has climbing legs and could recover if podium contenders falter.
- • He was near the front when the yellow jersey crashed (IDLprocycling.com, Jul 9), demonstrating he can be in position during key moments.
- • With stages remaining, a long breakaway or stage win could pull him back into contention if the top three have bad days.
The case for NO
- • Arensman's time loss on stage 14 likely puts him several minutes behind podium contenders, and with limited stages left, recovery is nearly impossible.
- • INEOS has shifted focus to Bernal as leader, meaning Arensman will work as a domestique rather than ride for his own GC.
- • The odds dropped 39 points in one day, reflecting a clear market consensus that his top-3 chance is effectively gone.
What to watch
- • Stage 20 time trial on July 25: A strong performance could slightly improve odds, but the deficit is likely too large; direction: slight Yes if he gains time, but more likely No.
- • Stage 17 high mountains on July 22: Another mountain stage where he could lose more time or gain if he attacks; direction: likely No if he loses more time.
- • Official team announcement: If INEOS confirms Arensman is riding for himself again, odds could rise slightly; direction: Yes.

Resolution criteria
This market will resolve to "Yes" if the listed cyclist finishes in the top 3 of the 2026 Tour De France scheduled for July 4, 2026 through July 26, 2026. If at any point it becomes impossible for a listed cyclist to finish in the top 3 of the 2026 Tour De France per the rules of the UCI, the corresponding market will resolve to "No". If the 2026 Tour De France is cancelled, postponed after August 9, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or there are otherwise no declared top 3 finishers declared within that timeframe, the corresponding market will resolve to "No". The primary resolution source will be official information from UCI; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
