No money — just record your call and see if you were right. Yes is at 10% right now.
Ukraine's intensifying drone campaign against Crimea is degrading Russian infrastructure but has not translated into territorial gains, keeping the odds of recapture near zero despite ongoing attrition.
📊 Base rate: No military has successfully recaptured a heavily fortified peninsula from a nuclear-armed adversary in modern history, and Ukraine has not regained any Crimean territory since Russia's 2014 annexation.
What's driving it
- • Ukrainian drone strikes on Crimea's logistics and infrastructure (Crypto Briefing, Jul 24, 21, 22) show sustained pressure but no ground operations, reinforcing the low probability of territorial capture.
- • Russian strikes on Ukraine's Odesa region (Crypto Briefing, Jul 20) indicate Russia remains capable of offensive actions on the southern front, reducing Ukraine's ability to mass forces for a Crimea push.
- • US renewed strikes on Iran (Crypto Briefing, Jul 22) suggest a potential diversion of American attention and resources away from Ukraine, lowering the likelihood of enabling equipment for a Crimea assault.
The case for YES
- • Ukraine's drone campaign could progressively degrade Russian air defenses and logistics, creating a window for a future ground incursion into Crimea.
- • If Russia's military becomes overstretched by other fronts (e.g., Iran escalation or internal unrest), Ukraine might exploit a temporary weakness to seize a small strip of Crimean territory.
- • Ukraine has previously recaptured large areas in Kharkiv and Kherson, demonstrating the ability to conduct successful offensives when conditions align.
The case for NO
- • Russia has heavily fortified Crimea with layered defenses since 2014, making a ground assault extremely costly and unlikely without overwhelming naval and air superiority.
- • Ukraine lacks the naval capability to cross the Isthmus of Perekop or conduct an amphibious landing, and current strategy focuses on deep strikes rather than territorial recapture.
- • The ISW map has shown no Ukrainian-controlled territory in Crimea since the start of the full-scale invasion, and recent headlines only describe drone attacks, not ground advances.
What to watch
- • Any confirmed Ukrainian ground troop buildup near the Crimean border or the Kherson front (direction: Yes).
- • Announcement of new Western long-range weapons (e.g., ATACMS) with explicit permission to strike Crimea (direction: Yes).
- • A major Russian withdrawal from southern Ukraine or a collapse of defensive lines in Zaporizhzhia (direction: Yes).

How it resolves
Settled on-chain by UMA's optimistic oracle: once an outcome is clear, anyone can propose the result, which then enters a challenge window where it can be disputed with evidence before it finalizes.
⚖️ A proposed outcome can be disputed during a challenge window before it's final.
Resolution criteria
This market will resolve to “Yes” if, according to the ISW map, Ukraine captures any territory in Crimea by December 31, 2026 at 11:59 PM ET. Territory will will be considered captured if any part of Crimea shaded blue on the ISW map (https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/36a7f6a6f5a9448496de641cf64bd375) by the resolution date. Otherwise, the market will resolve to “No”. For any change on the ISW map to qualify for this market’s resolution, the relevant shading indicating Ukrainian control must persist through the next full ISW daily update cycle. If ISW skips a day, shading must persist until the next finalized ISW update is published, regardless of the date. Any continuous shading which reflects either "Reported Ukrainian Territorial Gains in the Past 24 Hours", or “Claimed Ukrainian Counteroffensives” will qualify. The border around Crimea shaded in black on the ISW map will not qualify. Once Ukraine captures territory in Crimea, any subsequent loss of control will not be considered towards the resolution of this market. If Ukraine comes into control of territory in Crimea as a result of a negotiated settlement, this will qualify for a 'Yes' resolution, regardless of if it is shaded blue in the ISW map. However, an announcement of a negotiated settlement which gives Ukraine de jure control will not qualify. Actual control must be established. The primary resolution source for this market will be the ISW Ukraine map. If the ISW map is rendered unavailable, information from DeepStateMap (https://deepstatemap.live/) may be used. If information from both the ISW and DeepStateMap are rendered permanently unavailable, a consensus of credible reporting may be used. Note: Any temporary glitches or errors in the map which will not be considered.
