No money — just record your call and see if you were right. Yes is at 42% right now.
The market sees a 60% chance Trump skips South Korea in 2026, despite major US-South Korea tech deals and joint military exercises this week, likely because no official visit has been announced and the odds have been stable near 40% for months.
📊 Base rate: US presidents have visited South Korea in about 40% of years since diplomatic relations were established, with visits often tied to summits or major bilateral events, making the current 40% 'Yes' odds roughly in line with historical frequency.
What's driving it
- • The 7-day +3pt uptick likely reflects this week's $950 billion partnership between South Korea's SK Hynix, Samsung, and US big tech (Reuters, Jul 25), which could create a diplomatic rationale for a presidential visit.
- • The ongoing Combined Joint Logistics Over-the-Shore exercise at Dogu Beach, Pohang (DVIDS, Jul 25) signals active US-South Korea military cooperation, a traditional backdrop for high-level visits.
- • The 24h -2pt dip may stem from no official White House travel announcement appearing alongside these headlines, reinforcing the 'No' camp's view that business and military ties alone don't guarantee a visit.
- • No clear catalyst for the recent movement beyond the cluster of July 25 headlines; the market appears to be reacting to the general news flow rather than a specific event.
- • yes
- • The $950 billion AI and semiconductor partnership between Samsung, SK Hynix, and US tech giants (Reuters, Jul 25) creates a strong economic incentive for Trump to visit and claim credit for the deal.
- • Joint US-South Korea military exercises like CJLOTS 26 (DVIDS, Jul 25) provide a natural scheduling hook for a presidential visit to observe allied readiness.
- • Trump has a history of visiting allies during election years or to highlight trade wins, and 2026 is a midterm election year where a South Korea trip could boost his foreign policy credentials.
- • no
- • No official visit has been announced or leaked by the White House or South Korean government as of late July 2026, and such trips are typically planned months in advance.
- • The mud festival and sports news (AP, Al Jazeera, Jul 25) dominate South Korean headlines, suggesting no diplomatic buzz around a potential Trump visit.
- • Trump's past travel patterns show he often prioritizes domestic rallies and summits with major powers (China, Russia) over middle-power allies like South Korea, especially absent a crisis.
- • catalysts
- • Any White House statement or South Korean government invitation regarding a potential summit or visit (likely direction: Yes, as it signals planning).
- • Announcement of a major US-South Korea trade or defense agreement requiring a signing ceremony (likely direction: Yes, as it creates a concrete reason for a trip).
- • Release of Trump's 2026 travel schedule or a State Department diplomatic calendar (likely direction: Yes if South Korea appears, No if omitted).

The field is virtually nonexistent: only two candidates register at 1% each, and no one has broken 5%, making this the most open Democratic nomination race in modern history. The single biggest recent shift is the DNC's decision to put South Carolina first in the 2028 primary calendar (Axios, Jul 25), which could reshape candidate strategies and favor a different type of contender.

The field is highly concentrated, with Andy Burnham absorbing nearly all of the probability after Starmer’s resignation and a key endorsement, pushing the top three candidates' combined odds to an unsustainable 110% that signals liquidity imbalances or heavy speculative positioning.
