🗂 Part of event: What price will Bitcoin hit in July? →💡 What the odds say
The market puts this at about a 14% chance — very unlikely.
No money — just record your call and see if you were right. Yes is at 14% right now.
Despite a sharp geopolitical selloff that briefly pushed Bitcoin below $73,000, the 13% 'Yes' probability for a dip to $60,000 in July reflects traders' belief that the Middle East shock was not severe enough to trigger an additional ~$13,000 drop in the remaining five days of the month.
📊 Base rate: In the past 24 months, Bitcoin has experienced a month-end drop of 18% or more in a single month only once (May 2024), giving a historical base rate of roughly 4% for such extreme moves.
What's driving it
- • A US military strike in Iran on July 16 caused a brief dip below $73,000, but Bitcoin quickly recovered, showing limited follow-through selling (Crypto Briefing, Jul 16).
- • SpaceX's Bitcoin-linked stock drop and a broader tech selloff (Micron losing 30%) added downward pressure but failed to break key support levels (Crypto Briefing & TradingView, Jul 16).
- • A surprise missile interception in Kuwait on July 15 triggered a short-lived dip below $100,000, but the market dismissed the incident as isolated, preventing a trend toward $60,000 (Crypto Briefing, Jul 15).
- • Retail trader hype for XRP and ether amid the dip raised analyst warnings of a potential crash, but the main Bitcoin market has not yet shown panic selling (CoinDesk, Jul 14).
The case for YES
- • The spike in geopolitical risk from US strikes in Iran and the Gulf could escalate further, triggering a flight from risk assets and driving Bitcoin toward $60,000 before month-end.
- • If the tech selloff deepens—Micron has already lost 30%—a contagion into crypto could push Bitcoin past its July 16 low and toward the $60,000 target.
- • History shows that retail hype for altcoins during a dip often precedes a broader crash (CoinDesk, Jul 14), which could pull Bitcoin down with it.
The case for NO
- • Bitcoin has repeatedly bounced from the low $73,000 area after each geopolitical shock, indicating strong buyer support near that level and making a further ~$13,000 fall unlikely in five days.
- • The odds heavily favor 'No' at 88%, meaning the market consensus views the remaining time as too short for a 18%+ decline absent an unprecedented catalyst.
- • No clear catalyst for a collapse to $60,000 has emerged in the last ten days of headlines; the pattern has been sharp dips followed by quick recoveries.
What to watch
- • July 28: US Federal Reserve interest rate decision—if a hawkish surprise hits, it could trigger a risk-off move pushing Bitcoin lower, but odds suggest limited impact toward $60,000.
- • July 30: Release of July US jobs data—weak numbers might increase recession fears, while strong data could calm markets; direction remains split, but a severe miss would favor 'Yes'.
- • July 31: Expiration of a large options open interest at $75,000 strike—if Bitcoin fails to hold above that level, a cascade of liquidations could accelerate a drop toward $60,000.
